The LVN Power of an Hour
Just download the LVN app and choose a host centre to access LVN Power of an Hour sessions.
Hundreds of volunteers are waiting to give an hour to share their industry insights, advice, career journey and skills with you.
The LVN Power of an Hour programme is designed to help you build your future step by step. Our evidence is showing that just 10 interactions with volunteers outside of your usual social sphere can be transformative and open doors.
Above all, LVN aims to inspire and equip you with self-worth, confidence and the necessary knowledge and skill set to navigate your way around various career opportunities.
In one session, you could discover an interest in a certain career or job type, in the next, you could meet people who’ve already made it there and learn what skills and experience you need to get a foot in the door. After that, you could meet a volunteer who can share those skills with you and help you work on your CV.
There are many opportunities out there, and we’re here to help you access them.
Signing up to an LVN Host Centre
To get your Power of an Hour, you’ll need to register on our app. Once you’ve created your account, navigate to the Passport to Progression page by clicking the LVN logo on the menu. There you’ll need to choose your LVN Host Centre.
If you’re accessing the Power of an Hour as recommended by your youth centre or Jobcentre, then you can find your centre on the list. If you’re not part of an organisation already and are looking to get started from fresh, you can choose any host centre from the list that says “All Welcome”.
You’ll be asked to answer some quick questions and select the support you’re interested in. This will help us understand where you’re at right now and how we can best support you.
Receiving your invite
When a Power of an Hour event is scheduled, the LVN practitioner at your centre will invite you. You’ll receive your invite in the “My Diary” page of the app where you can accept the invite or decline if you can’t make it. If the session will take place online, you’ll receive the meeting link with your invite.
Keeping everyone safe
- An LVN practitioner will accompany you at all times in both face-to-face and online sessions and you will never be left alone with a volunteer
- No personal information can be exchanged between yourself and a volunteer and all contact must be via an LVN practitioner (this includes email, phone numbers and social media information)
You can read more on our Safeguarding Policy page to understand what we’re doing to keep you safe.
Receiving your hour
Relax, have fun and don’t worry; you are there to meet volunteers who are eager to help you. LVN evidence is showing that ten interactions outside your usual network can have a big impact on your life. Every hour really does help and you can have as many as you want
Your Personal Development Plans (PDPs)
It is important to keep a record of your progress so that you can look back and see how far you’ve come and who you’ve met. We also need to know how the Power of an Hour sessions have been helpful so we can keep improving the support we give.
After each session you will automatically receive access to your session evaluation form in the app. It is important to take a moment to complete this so that we know how things are going.
The volunteers you can meet
Our practitioners will work with you to help you identify your interests and areas for development.
You can ask for very specific help with homework or interview preparation, or simply explore your options and get advice and information on different industries and jobs.
The hours you receive will help you grow your confidence, life skills and find a direction.
There are already hundreds of volunteers signed up to support you. These include personal trainers, musicians, lawyers, programmers, entrepreneurs, self-employed IT professionals, builders, teachers, nurses and more.
They can answer your questions, share their career journey, advise you on how to enter their industry, and sometimes even offer work experience or internships.
Our support is deliberately youth-led. This means that you’re in control of your journey. Therefore, you can request specific support and receive as many hours as you need.
