Global Skills Centre: Vocational Options

Ages 14-16, 17-18

Vocational Options Global Skills Centre’s “Vocational Options” provisions are aimed at pupils aged 14-18 who are at risk of being Not in Education, Employment and Training.

The rationale behind this provision is to nurture, upskill and encourage them back into mainstream education or apprenticeship.

The vocational options are embedded with Functional Skills – Maths, English and ICT.

The young people can choose one of the vocational skills areas:

  • Vocational Skills
  • Business and Administration
  • Computerised Accounts
  • Employability Skills
  • Functional Skills English
  • Functional Skills ICT
  • Functional Skills Maths
  • Personal and Social Development
  • GCSE Tuition
  • GCSE tuition in Maths & English for aged 16-18.

The Vocational Skills and GCSE provisions are reinforced by an individually tailored programme of support and motivational training which includes:

  • Personal & Social Skills
  • Careers Education & Guidance (IAG)
  • Help with CV
  • Conflict Resolution
  • Life Skills
  • Managing Money
  • Work Placement
  • Sex Education
  • Anger Management

In addition to vocational options training, our young learners are provided with extra-curricular activities.

Enrichment and extra-curricular programmes Supervised trips; are organised with the aim of boosting skills such as team-work while in a varied environment.

Previous organised trips have included:

  • Theme parks
  • Rock climbing
  • Paintballing
  • Cinema and museum trips

Xbox, Nintendo Wii and recreational games; are also available to boost young learners’ motivation and enrich the programme.

Life Skills Workshops; are organised to help learners improve their self esteem, interpersonal skills and self awareness in order to improve their relationship with others and boost their employment potentials.

Costs for these services will be charged at market rate at the point of delivery and does not include costs incurred in providing additional support such as: educational psychologist, childcare, mentoring & coaching.
